What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MN, corporate headquarters in AR
I was just notified that my position is being eliminated. I recieved my severance documents by Fed Ex today, but they are not clear. Quote as follows:

"You will continue to recieve pay for the 60 day notice period. Therefore, for administrative and payroll purposes, your employment will terminate with the Company on January 11, 2009."

There is another page which says under Plan Benefit:

"I understand and acknowledge that I will recieve four (4) weeks Pay as defined in the Plan."

Of course, there are many more pages of releases, acknowledgments, etc, but this seems contradictory. How many weeks pay will I recieve? Also, how does this figure in with unemployment benefits?

I understand you are not able to read the actual paperwork, but just looking for opinions because I really don't have the funds to take this to an attorney.

You can either consult an attorney or you can ask the company. Clearly they screwed SOMETHING up in the paperwork.

For your questions about unemployment, ask the UC office as each state has their own rules. If you will be receiving weekly/biweekly pay and still on the books as an employee for a time, then it's likely that your UC benefits will not start until after that time is up.
