If you did not sign the papers properly, which many POAs do, you can make yourself the guarantor and responsible.

Contact the home now. Get copies of the papers you signed, and get them to send you a letter confirming that you signed only as his attorney in fact, and have no personal liability to them for his care. If they refuse to give it to you, tell them in writing, return receipt, that if and to the extent you may have incurred any personal liablity to date, effective immediately you withdraw from any personal obligation for his care and will no longer assume any personal liability. If they give you a hard time, tell them, in writing, you will switch facilities immediately. If they don't relent, consider moving him fro A to B (after consulting counsel) and be VERY careful when signing on his behalf at the new place -- only as attorney in fact and without any personal liability.
