Does anyone know how I may obtain "Power of Attorney" for my mother who did not leave any advance directives regarding life support? Also, she did not designate anyone as her "Power of Attorney" regarding her personal/financial affairs. For reference purposes, we live in Alabama. Would I need to petition the courts in order to be assigned as her "Power of Attorney"? I'm assuming that I would need to hire an attorney for this, however, I am hoping that I may be able to do this on my own as finances are limited due to her critical condition.

Is she beyond making decisions for herself>

IF so then you will need to file for Guardianship in a court, it will be investigated then approved or denied.

If she is still mentally well then she/you can have a POA drawn up and she can sign it.
