What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? FL

I am in a relationship, have been for 15 years. We are not married. If something were to happen to either of us, medical emergency or such, how do we go about ensuring that either myself of my S.O. has rights to be at the bedside in a hospital. We dont want to be denied access to each other. we have both heard because we arent married we have no rights to be by each others side in a situation where once of us is critical in a hospital. We also want to be able to make decisions if needed for medical or other emergencies.

Oh and before someone says get married. We do not want to get married. We have both been before and have agreed its something we don't want to do right now..after 15 years..things are going too good ;)

A medical POA is probably your best bet. You each give one to the other.

You should also do Wills. Particularly if either or both of you have children, but important even if you don't.
