What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Ohio

My aunt is in a nursing home in Connecticut. I have Power of Attorney and have been taking care of my aunt's bills using her funds. Recently, my brother and I (who are her only living relatives) learned that she will not be coming out of the nursing home. We will be closing up her apartment and removing her belongings in a few weeks. This will involve some travel on our parts since my brother lives on the West Coast, and I live in Ohio.

I would like to know if it would be legal to recoup our travel expenses (airline, car, hotel, food) from money in her account. We would have receipts for everything to show exactly what we spent and would be taking only the exact amount of what we spent.

Also, are we allowed to take a fee for the work we do in cleaning up her apartment?

Thank you.

Litmus test time:

1) Of all of the above, what would you do for your OWN aunt for free?

2) Of all of the above, what do you think a judge in court would allow you and your brother to be compensated for?

Since I would not otherwise be going to Connecticut this year, I do not think it is unreasonable to expect to be reimbursed for travel expenses. It's not like this is a fun vacation. If I knew what a judge would allow, I wouldn't have posted the question.
