What is the name of your state? Kansas

Recently and very unexpectedly my grandmother passed away. She has a very good friend of about 60 years that is completely bed ridden. She is now bleeding somewhere and it's causing her to become slightly disoriented at times when blood is recieved though she is very capible of making wise decisions. About 25-30 years ago my grandma's friend's daughter was beaten by her boss. She was pushed backwards head first into the corner of a coffee table. She is now mentally and very much physically handicap. She still talks and walks not with ease. She recieved approx. $300,000 as a settlement. Before my grandmother passed she had been talking with the mother about who would be taking care of her daughter and tending to other business when she passed. A "friend" of theirs is believed to have made herself "Power of Attorney" or something along the same lines as that without really letting either the mother or daughter know what was going on. My grandmother had set an appoitment with a local attorney to speak with them about what they wanted to be done, but the attorney never spoke to them about anything. Since my grandmother is gone now I see it fit that I make sure that they are not being taken advantage of just because of the money that can be dished out. The "friend" of theirs is not in my opinion a person of good intentions...I think she basically see's $ signs $. I want to make sure that they are taken care of as best as possible and not used. With the mother not always being in the right state of mind though it's kind of hard to ask her and be able to know really what's going on. She is not going to make it much longer it doesn't look like so something needs to be done A.S.A.P. Please someone...anyone give me some advice on what it is that needs to be done in this matter before time runs out.

My grandmothers friend in discussion passed away this morning. Is there anything that I can do now at all to help try to save the daughter and her money?

The vulnerable person is the daughter. Check into a guardianship/conservatorship for her to protect her and her money.

Check at the county courthouse to see if a will has been filed yet. Or go to the funeral home to see who (perhaps another family member) is in charge of making funeral arrangements and if it is NOT the person who got POA, then discuss this with that family member.

If you can't find a family member, then go to a family law attorney and explain the situation so that the attorney can step in and do what is necessary to protect this settlement money by getting guardianship and putting it in trust for the disabled daughter, and also possibly filing charges against the POA for embezzlement if she has gotten control of this money, or at least negotiating with the POA to put the money in trust.
