I understand that a spouse has automatic power-of-attorney over the other spouse. Can my father (of sound mind) somehow transfer power-of-attorney over my mother (who has alshiemers) to me? If not, what is the simplest way I can have authority to sign documents on her behalf? (indiana residents) thank you

1. You can get HER to sign papers, giving you power of attorney over her affairs. (But I don't know whether she's competent to do that from what you've posted, and that would matter.)

2. You can have the court declare her to be incompetent and ask to be her guardian.

I assume your father is in agreement with these things? If so, that will make either choice easier.

Hope this helps....
