I guess I am not expecting anyone to tell me that I have a case, I am just interested in seeing if anybody shares my opinion and get a couple answers.
What happened: 6 months ago, I was hired as a parts manager at an RV dealership - I was hired on the spot the day I walked in to inquire. I happily learned and did my job to the best of my ability and was highly praised. In my fifth month there, I found out I was pregnant. My boss was out of town, so I didn't tell anybody right away. Now, it's a family owned place and we were all very close. A couple of the sales managers - who were older married guys figured it out pretty easy what with me being in the restroom and sick all the time. I was having a real tough time, but I hung in there and I always got my work done. A couple of times, the manager on duty told me I could go home early if I wanted because my work was done and it was quiet - without my asking - and I did. My boss came back and already knew about the pregnancy. She seemed happy for me and left it at that. At the end of the next week, she came to me two hours before closing and told me she they were having financial problems and that she was laying me off, and two other managers off. She told me I was to finish my shift and not to come in the next day. She said the other two guys would be laid off the following week. I was upset, but let it go at that and told her I was sorry they were in trouble. She began calling me almost every day - several times a day - to ask me how to do this or that. It took up alot of my time, but I felt sorry for her so I helped her. She indicated to me that they were having a hard time being so short staffed. I realized I had left a sweat shirt out there, so I stopped by about two weeks after the lay off to get it and found that the other two managers were still working there. I didn't say anything, but my ex-boss actually kept me there for 45 minutes asking questions and having me show her how to do my job. Since then, I have spoken to another employee's wife who told me that they laid everyone off every year by december except her husband. My ex-boss had told me this was the first lay off they'd had in 26 years. If that was the case, I would have never taken the position because I was told it was a full time, year round job. Then I spoke with the boss' monther who told me "no they had never laid anyone off before." The point is, it's been almost two months since the lay off and the other two managers are still there. I am having a difficult time finding a job because I am pregnant also. Does anyone think I was "laid off" because I'm pregnant? Also, can people not hire me because I'm pregnant? Thank you for your time and any help you can give.

I don't know how long you have to be on the job in Montana to collect unemployment but that woud be my suggestion. Also I would get caller ID and stop answering the phone when this person calls you for help. Proving discrimination is difficult. I was in a similar situation when my ex was transfered. I was pregnant and we had to move. I went out on job interviews set up by unemployment for six months but the unemployment checks helped. I was willing to work but no one would hire me. Good Luck.
