If a non-profit is formed for a small (and new) church, can the head priest purchase a home in the name of the non-profit?

You should be asking this of the priest and the folks in the governing body of the church your questions.

If the church government allows such things, then of course it is okay.

But you really haven't given us enough info to answer the question.

My church owns a home a few blocks from the actual church, the pastor receives free use of the house as part of his wages. Many churches provide housing due to the generally low wages actually paid the the head of the congregation. I have never been involved in the financial dealings with the church so I don't know if the house is tax exempt or not.
