Hello, I just finished taking a self help divorce class from my local legal aid office (I am in Oregon), and They gave me all the forms i need to complete my divorce, except for a form to ask for spousal support. I have been a stay at home mom for the last 6 yrs, and my husband recently left me and my two children. The legal aid teacher of the class told me that they do not have the form, and that i should just make up my own and attach it to my child support worksheet???? I know that cant be right, i have seen a form asking for spousal support from the legal aid website, and was told i could use it as a template to go by. So my question is this, how do i know what is a resonable amount to ask for and for how long? And also is there a better way to go about getting the form i need?
A lawyer i consulted with on the phone told me that i shouldnt ask for a specific amount, that the judge will decide what is fair. Im not out to screw my ex, but i do need to support myself and my childern until i can can get some schooling or some decent work. thank you in advance for your reply!
