What is the process to file a request to have a death certificate amended in California? My husband died in 7/99 of a gunshot wound to the head. The death certificate states it was a suicide. There was another person present when this death occurred. Further investigations by state agencies were able to conclude that the death most likely occurred "at the hand of another", but were unable to pursue a criminal trial due to "scene" evidence contamination, and the case is now considered open but not
active. I did not file a wrongful death suit, as I felt my emotional and mental stability were at stake. I understand that such a suit would have had to be filed within 1 year of the death.
