What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Maine

I received an item off of amazon quite some time ago, and only managed to use it twice in that time. It's a battery charger for my camera battery. The second time using it, I happened to be sitting next to the charger one night and smelled burning plastic. I looked down to see it sizzling and smoking. With potentially flammable items around it, if I had gone to bed early that night my house very well could have burned down. I'm absolutely positive it is no fault of the electrical outlet. This cheap made in China **** is a health hazard to us all.

Bummer, you should get your money back. But you won't get anything more than that, since your house did not actually burn down.

If it was an Amazon purchase from Amazon, good luck with that. They might offer a percentage back, but not the entire amount. depending on how long OP had the product. If OP bought the product from a seller on Amazon, any refund would depend on that seller.

Stuff happens. OP's house didn't burn down. OP has not won the lawsuit lottery.

You should really evaluate the quality of your purchases based on more than price. You could even burn your house down, with some of the crap they sell from China.

Yeah it is common knowledge that cheap knockoff chargers for cell phones and other small electronics can overheat and melt and wreck whatever you're trying to charge. Buy name brand.

Know what you mean

Know what you mean about that cheap made in China stuff
Had a space heater made in China that didn't shut off when knocked over
So I tore it apart & what was missing was the shut off mechanism
Had that been made in USA like they use to be you can damn well bet it would have had one of those
That's not the only product I have gotten that stopped working because it wasn't made right
yeah got a home theater system a few years ago & right after the warranty had expired I turned it on to watch a movie & heard a sizzling sound then I looked at the TV & the video section got burned out by an uninsulated resistor lead that was mounted too close to the metal casing
Same goes for the home theater system if it had been made here that lead would have been insulated or mounted in a different way so it wouldn't short out
Makes me wonder if those people aren't doing that on purpose to cause havoc in American homes
