I live in Iowa and was stopped for a routine vehicle inspection (every sixth car was stopped), they gave me a $304.00 ticket for not having current proof of vehicle insurance in my car, the copy I had in the car had expired 1 month earlier, I had the current copy at home and had not put it in the car yet, I thought the law was you have 24 hours to produce a current copy of your insurance, is that correct or can they give me a $304.00 ticket? What options do I have to fight this? I don't think it is fair
Thanks
Mike

I do not know Iowa law, but in most states if you show up with the proof the judge would waive or lower the fine.
