For what reason was your car towed?Virginia... was living with mother. she was renting from her landlord, when i moved in, electric, cable was in my name. also have messages to prove that i paid half of the rent there... about 2 weeks ago she kicked me out. i was going to get my vehicle towed by someone for cheap... but she towed it without my knowledge, nor did i receive a 30 day eviction notice. the bill is $50 a day the car is there... i refuse to pay for it ($150)when i had everything lined up... was she in wrong? can i make her pay to get it out? can i press charges for a stolen vehicle?
she wanted it off the lot. it was “killing grass”For what reason was your car towed?
it was about a week ago that she told me to get it towed. i lived with her for about 5-6 months. when i moved in, she had told me that she let her landlord know. (could be a possibility that she didnt though, she has lied in past situations before. cant give a 100% to that answer..)How long after you were told to move your vehicle did your mom take steps to have it towed?
How long did you live with your mom? Did the landlord approve your residence?
thank you for the advice. The reason I asked about the landlord's number of rentals is that the landlord (and, in extension, your mom) may not be governed by Virginia's landlord/tenant laws.
If your vehicle is not driveable in its current condition, and you want to keep the vehicle, you might be smart to pay the tow storage fees now and have the vehicle towed to where you will not be racking up daily charges.
Then you can attempt to sue your mom for recovery of tow storage fees. But I am not sure what sort of success you will have. If I am correct (and you will want to verify), an owner of the private property where a vehicle is parked only needs to give the vehicle owner a 72-hour notice to move the vehicle before it can be towed.
It depends.thank you for the advice.
so if correct, the landlord would have been the one to give me the 72-hour notice? or since my mothers name is on the lease, she is entitled to be able to?
Speaking with the landlord might help lead to some answers for you. Reading a copy of your mom's lease could provide additional answers.okay i see. i plan on meeting with the landlord later today.. what if she had not told my mother? not sure if this would do anything... but she has had two other vehicles sitting aswell. both of her vehicles have killed the grass in the spots they have been sitting.. and are currently still sitting in the same spots. my vehicle was parked half way in the drive-way, half way in grass. should have mentioned this earlier.i apologize.
