I live in California.

I sell a sports training aid online. It's a baseball bat product. Is an LLC sufficient protection? If I need insurance, what kind of insurance do I need to protect my business and family?

I do not manufacture the product. I custom label it. I get them shipped to me, then I box them up and send them to the customer.

I sell on my own website and will be selling through amazon soon.

thank you

The best way to protect yourself is with adequate product liability insurance.

You should ensure that your labels are to industry standards and that any advertising you do on your website does not deceive or confuse consumers as to the origin of the products you will be selling. If the bats will be marketed as a sports training aid, there are some precautions you need to take.

I agree with LdiJ that having product liability insurance is smart.

As to starting an LLC, you will probably want to sit down with a business law professional to go over your business plans and to have a review of the company whose product you plan to sell and send. I see some potential areas of concern but these will be covered, and best discussed, personally with an attorney in your area.

You are smart, by the way, to be thinking of protecting both your business and your personal assets when embarking on a new business. Good luck.
