hello,

can anyone advice me how to look up an attorney specializing in QDRO?

i was thinking of trying the tedious approach of looking through the yellow pages and calling lawyers (of Family Law), asking them whether they specialize in doing QDROs (if not, if there is a name they could refer me to).

my counsel attorney does not have a name to refer me to and i was hoping there is a better way (than my approach, as above) to look up QDRO attorneys. any advice (or a name of a QDRO lawyer in the orange county area) would be very helpful.

thank you for your time.

A QDRO is a pretty basic thing in a divorce situation. Why can't your current attorney handle it?

My response:

What did I tell you about responding to California writers?

Do you understand the English language?

You're NOT qualified to respond to California writers, Ldij. Stop it!

My response:

Call the local State Bar office, and ask for a referral to a Family Law Specialist. The Bar referrals are only to specialists.

Fact: A QDRO is not specific to CA.
Fact: A QDRO is very "basic" for family law attorneys.
Fact: I offered no advice but merely informed him that a QDRO was very basic and asked him why his current attorney was unequiped to handle one.
Fact: My reason for asking that question was a suspicion that he might not have adequate legal representation in his divorce...if his attorney was not equiped to handle a QDRO.
Fact: My assumption was that if he provided an answer that backed up my suspicion that you or another senior member with CA expertise would respond.

In other words IAAL...I asked a valid question. The fact that you told him to ask for referrals to a "Family Law Specialist" indicates that you recognized the same thing that I did....and confirms the validity of my question.

Therefore, your post to me was gratuitous.

thank you IAAL for your reply. i'll call the Los Angeles and OC bar association on monday and get a name, that definitely is going to be a time saver for me.

LdiJ, you're right, my mediator can do it, but since he does not specialize in QDROs, i think neither me nor my (ex)wife want him to handle this. and my counsel lawyer simply does not do QDROs for clients, so that option is out -
hence the advice forum.

i've had some great feedback from here, appreciate the help.

My response:

FACT: I've told you to stay away from California writers.

That's the only "fact" that counts.
