I agree with Jeff. My poodle is a darling dog though she does not have a poodle cut. She is extremely intelligent and deals very well with other animals AND children. If I had a choice and ever wanted a purebred dog I would not hesitate to get a poodle in the future.

Before I was fostering this dog, I believed that poodles were pretentious, fussy animals. But they really aren't. They are patient, gentle, loving, over all calm, and extremely bright and responsive.

There are no bad poodles, only bad poodle owners.

I have a good friend with a standard poodle. it's a great dog - intelligent, great family dog, and no problems at all other than some shedding.

Don't confuse the standard poodle with a toy poodle. And also don't assume that all poodle owners give them that stupid poodle cut.

It's not really my kind of dog, but it really is a great dog.

When I was growing up some neighbors of ours had a male poodle named Sam. He was a GREAT dog. He played with all of the neighborhood kids.

They only got him a poodle cut once a year, at the beginning of the summer, so he would be cooler during the summer months. It was really hysterical because he would actually act like an embarrised person running around with no clothes on after he got the cut. He would hide in the house for several days before he would come outside again.

He was a really great and fun dog.
