What is the name of your state WI?

I just have a quick question and its probably pretty redunant, but I've been on the computer looking for an answer and can't seem to find one. Anyway, my ex that I have equal custody and placement with is moving. Just in the same city, so I don't really care that he's moving. I'm going to assume that since it isn't a far distance he doesn't need court permission or anything, my question is, does he have to inform me of his move? Or at the very least provide me with his new address AND provide it to the family court and the child support office?

The only reason I know about the move, which is apparently happening next week while my son is visiting his father, is that my son told me that dad was moving. Otherwise I would have no knowledge at all of the pending move at all. So I'm going to assume that neither the family court or the child support office know either.

Yes, he is obligated to let you, the courts and CSED know his new address.

Thank you for the reply. And just to take it one step further, because I know my ex and this isn't exactly an impossibility, what if he doesn't give me his new address? It has happened before. For several months after my ex first moved out I had no idea where he was, not even what city he lived in. So, I could see him saying he'll do both pick-up and drop-off just so he wouldn't have to tell me that he's moved.

You could go to court to ask for an order, but that seems like a big waste of time and money.

I'm going to back up. Does the divorce decree require him to give you his new address? If it doesn't , filing for contempt is going to be pretty tough.

Have you ASKED him for the new address? Simply explain that you need to know where to find the child in the event of an emergency. That's by far the simplest solution.

Does your child support office require parties to give them their new addresses? I know all CS offices in my state require both parties to notify them of address change.

If yours does sometimes a simple call to the CS office will get that address. Mine will send the party out a letter, requesting the address. It is also in my state guidelines(which are default guidelines for things not in an order), that both parties must notify each other of address changes.

So check out your CS office policies and any guidelines your state or county might have.

I would also add that in every state, CSED requires that both parties update contact info as it changes. (Would be necessary in order for CSED to do their jobs.....)

I do not know about the content in every states court order, but MN has an "Appendix A" that require (absent a controlling order or PFA/TRO) both parties appraise CSED, the courts, and each other of current contact info.

Also, is there a clause in your court order about transportation? If that includes you going to his home at any time to drop off/pick up child, then he has to give you his address.

My ex, after a move, tried to take over all transportation. He didn't want me to see his house. I told him I was sticking to our court order so that he had to give me his address.
