Going on that theory, OHR, the advertisers may be hoping the ads will attract the attention of the impotent, out-of-shape white (or Jewish Native American
) males, who will purchase whatever it is being hawked so as to win the beautiful and shapely white woman away from the virile, ab-defined black male.
In college, I started off in advertising and design and interned one summer for a major Detroit-area advertiser. The key to advertising is designing your ad to fit your audience. In Detroit, the ads that you see are far different than the ads that you will see in San Francisco or Miami. There is a different audience to market your product or service to in each different geographic area. The advertiser (and the advertiser's client) who doesn't recognize this and target their ad to their market appropriately is generally wasting their advertising dollars.
