What is the name of your state? MN

I received a Federal Chapter 7 discharge in April of 2005. I have a number of secured loans (car, trailer, mortgage), which I continued to pay but did not reaffirm on the advice of my attorney.

I now have steady income and want to re-affirm some of these loans - in part to get the benefit of the payments to rebuild my credit. However, when I contacted one of my creditors I was told that I can only re-affirm during the bankruptcy process before the discharge is granted. Is that correct?

Thanks.

Yes, that is correct. Reaffirmations must be done before your discharge because they must be filed with the court.

Even if you had reaffirmed, there is no guarantee that creditors will report your payments to rebuild your credit. You'll have to engage in some credit repair and rebuild by other methods. You can find info on both at either www.creditboards.com or www.creditinfocenter.com
