I'm a Virginia resident and this past Fourth of July I decided to visit some friends in Greenville, South Carolina after dropping another friend off in Ahoskie, NC. It was ~ 9 hours of driving, flow of traffic varied between 75 and 85 miles per hour along the various roads and highways. My phone dies 7 hours into the trip so I no longer have a GPS and I was dying to get to Charlotte because it was the only city I am familiar enough with to feel comfortable searching for a store to by a car charger (I was about 12 miles away on I-85). My speed got away from me slightly and I was caught going 87 in a 65. Not only am I terrified about dealing with a reckless driving charge, my court date is scheduled for the middle of September and I go to college in Virginia. Driving a few hours south to go to court on a Wednesday morning isn't easily done during the semester.

If anyone has any advice for me or can recommend a good (and affordable) crimminal defense lawyer I would really appreciate it. If it matters, I have gotten a speeding ticket in Virginia that required me to attend driving school over 2.5 years ago

Thank you!!

Well, that's hardly an excuse.

If you're looking for an attorney then no one here will recommend one. There should be a button you can click on that's one one of the pages of this website that will help you find one.

Of you can use your old friend Google.

You need a lawyer and you need to be prepared to appear in court.

That is the long and short of it.

A lawyer will be advisable. In NC the possibility exists for either to have it reduced to a non-criminal speeding or to PJC it.
