I have an unusual problem that you may or may not be
able to help me with as this is the first time I have ever contacted a law
site. I am from California. The situation is as follows: I had loaned a good friend of mine
$1,000.00 one morning in November. I had loaned this person money many times before
and he always repaid me within a week of the loan. That evening that
person was murdered. The money I had loaned him was recovered by the
District Attorney and is in their posession, I guess as possible evidence
in the upcoming trial which may be over a year away. The money has no
bearing on the case and I am in very bad health and could use this money
now. Is there a claim form or something that I could fill out and submit
to the DA's office requesting these funds be released to me or should I
just ask the DA's office for the money. There are witnesses that have
confirmed that the money does belong to me in their statements to the DA's
office. I would really appreciate it if you could help me regarding this
issue or point me in the right direction as what to do next.

Thank you.

Simply call the DA's office and ask what is necessary to reclaim or recover your funds. However, you need to be aware that they are probably going to want some SUBSTANTIAL proof from you that the funds are yours and not the descedants.
