I posted this to employment but was told to post in contracts. But they neglected to specify which contracts, so I'm trying this one. Thanks for your patience.
My 16 year old daughter auditioned for a small record label to be a dancer for one of their artists. She was accepted and brought home a contract for me to sign. I would not sign it because of statements requiring me to pay them $1000 for each instance of "fraternization" and $50 per half hour if she was late. Yet the salary was $25 per performance. I didn't want her to get involved with these people because of past experiences where they didn't want to pay for services that they ordered or cancelling artists out of the blue. So she told them that she would choreograph the dances for $50 each. She did the first one and taught it to the dancers and they all liked it so much, they gave her a $150 check for 3 songs in advance. The check notes, "3 choreographed songs", otherwise the agreement was verbal. As I feared, the songs came in the mail, but then they changed their minds about 2 of them and my daughter had already choreographed the next one so she had to adapt it to the new song. (all of the rehearsals are taped by us) Then the 3rd song was emailed to her the night before she was to teach it to the dancers. She was up all night choreographing and went to the rehearsal where they were auditioning dancers, one of whom ended up being a choreographer. My daughter knew what was going on and emailed the president of the record label, who finally got around to saying that the artist wasn't "thrilled with the choreography" so their lawyer would contact my daughter about refunding the money paid to her. I then got an email (for my daughter) saying that the investors told the president to contact us demanding repayment of all money based on "unsatisfactory product" within 5 days. Does she owe any refund? She provided the choreography for 3 songs as the check noted. The email was titled "Cancellation of Verbal Contract" to my daughter, but she is only 16 and never had a contract. (unless the check is one?) Do I ignore them or go on the offensive? I'd rather ignore. Thanks for any input.

Personally, I would ignore it.... especially since it was an email.
If you get a LETTER from an attorney or notice of suit (both unlikely), return and let us know.
