I am an adult and live alone in a condo unit that my step-father (my mother's husband) owns. The condo associaton wants to change the rules to limit the number of units that can be leased, rented or occupied by anybody other than those related by blood or marriage to the owner of the unit.

I don't think it's aimed at me, but I just want to make sure that I come under the definition of related by marriage. Related by marriage would be like brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, etc. But does the adult child of a spouse also count as far as the law is concerned? If they tried to remove me on the grounds that I was not related by blood or marriage to the unit owner, could they have a case or not?

Thanks in advance! Missouri

**A: it appears that you would have a case against them since you should be "grandfathered in". Make sure you sign a long lease.
