Release of Liability - Donated Fishing Trip

Hello,
I am hosting a frundraising silent auction and an employee at the company I work for would like to donate a chinook fishing trip for 2 people on his personal boat. I have already checked with the Oregon Fish & Wildlife department and he does not need a guide permit. He is worried about the liability involved with bringing other people on his boat. Can he have the people that win the auction fill out release of liability forms? If so, can I print ones off the internet to have them sign or is there another step I need to take to make them official?

He can get all the releases he wants, but nothing will stop a lawsuit. If he is negligent, it's quite possible people will prevail. You can't waive away other people's right to sue, so if hubby drowns, wifey can come after him hard.

This is why real guides are licensed and insured.

He can certainly get a release, and should. As pointed out above, even if the release is valid against the person who signed it, a spouse may sue in his or her own right. He should make sure that he has adequate insurance.
