What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? California

I am renting a 4 bedroom house that I moved into last October. Before I moved, I was a single mother with 3 children. Now, I have gotten married and my husband and son moved in with us.

Before this happened, I advised the landlord and he did not have a problem with it. Then today, I received notice that he is increasing the rent due to addditional people living in the home. This coming 6 months after the change.

Is the practice of charging rent according to the number of people living here legal? That sounds more like a hotel then a landlord / tenant policy.

Well

I am guessing you are month to month...yes?

The LL can raise your rent for any reason, as long as he gives you the proper notice and stays with the guidelines stipulated within the state.
