What is the name of your state? VA

Recently while adverstising a place I have available, I received a call from someone in Canada who was interested in renting. It turned out he didn't have a job so it didn't work out, but it made me wonder what to do in situations where I have an applicant who is from another country with regards to running a credit check. The program I use searches based off of social security number and address and (I think) does not have an option for entering addresses from other countries. I doubt this will be a problem for me in the future, but I'm curious as to what my options are. Can I turn the individual away because he/she does not have any credit? Is that considered discriminatory? Thanks for your help.

I rent to foreign nationals coming to UVA - You ask to see the VISA and/or passport and you copy it. You ask for evidence of employment * this is usually a letter from the appropriate employer/department ....most foreign nationals who travel have credit cards.:)
