What is the name of your state? Utah My husband passed away in Dec. and I want to know if I am responsible for his medical bill after the insurances have paid their portions? One of the collectors for his bills told me that Utah has a law now that states that the surviving spouse is responsible. They told me that they would write off what ever the insurance did not pay and now they are not. I wanted to know if their is a law that says I am responsible and I do not have an estate. What is the name of your state?

That really isn't a family law issue. You would need to consult with a local attorney. If Utah is not a community property state, I would suspect that the bill collector is lying to you, but do consult with a local attorney to be certain.
