I'm 16 and my parents do not like my boyfriend because he's been in trouble with the law before and they think he will get me in trouble even though he's never done anything to put me in danger. the worst thing that has ever happened when i was with him was i came home 2 hours late because i fell asleep at my friends house and couldnt get a ride home. my parents want to get a restraining order against him because they dont want me with him, even though they have no good reason because he hasnt done anything wrong since we've been together and he's never done anything bad to me. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

My response:

There's not much, if anything, that can be done. Your parents love you, and are looking out for your best interests (even if you don't believe it).

There's nothing that we can do to convince your parents to do otherwise. They're going to do what they're going to do, regardless of what we tell you on these Boards.

Until you're 18, and while you're living under their roof, they can pretty much do what they want with your life. Take it easy and slow down, especially if your boyfriend's been in trouble with the law. Do you really want to be dragged down with your boyfriend since he, apparently, has little respect for law and order ?
