california - my husband has 2 children that live with us - he has full physical custody. his ex-wife has remarried. we don't know anything about this guy. in fact, we tried to find information on this guy & he doesn't seem to exist. the ex-wife refuses to give my husband any information on her new husband. he has asked repeatedly. we would like to run a check on this person to make sure he doesn't have any criminal history since the girls may be spending some time alone with him. what legal rights does my husband have to this information? please help. thank you.

My response:

You have all the right in the world to run your own, private, background check. The court won't help you until such time as you have legally-recognized negative information.

So, hire your own private investigator - - and get all the dirt.
