What is the name of your state? CA

Like most employees, we get paid twice a month. I am curious though because on our paycheck, our employer indicates that we are gettng an advance salary which is half our monthly income then gives us the "balance" at the end of the month. Is this legal? How could this be advantagous to him?

On the 15th of the month, our employer considers our paycheck an "advance". The balance which is net of all deductions like taxes is given at the end of the month. Very weird. Any reason why he would do this?

Does the amount your receive vary? In other words, is 15th's paycheck $1,000 and the one at the end of the month $700?

Off hand, the only thing that comes to mind is your employer may be trying to save money by only paying your taxes once per month rather than twice. A cash flow issue of sorts.

That's the only thing that comes to mind...Have you asked?
