What is the name of your state? Florida
A friend of mine sold his car to someone and wrote out a a bill of sale and had evryone sign as well as a witness. Apparently they took the car ro California, got arrested and never changed the title. The car was towed. The towing company called my friend and told him what was going on, and he told them that he sold the car and had a bill of sale for it. Fine, done. That was a few months ago. Recently he got a letter saying that the car was sold at auction and did not recover the storage and towing fees so he owe's $1500.00. He called and told them he had sold the car and had already told the towing company this. The collection agency said that he needs a Release of Liability in order to be relieved of his liability. We looked into this and there is only such a form (that I can find) in CA, but not in FL. Is he liable for this amount? I find it hard to believe that everyone selling a vehicle on the street researches every state law in order to cover their rears. Please advise or direct me to the proper forum to post in. Thanks a bunch!
