What is the name of your state? Massachuestts

I have a couple of questions...

1. is it illadvised to not hire a lawyre to file personal bankruptcy? I mean, if I had the $ I would... I dont. The $200 filing fee is gonna be hard

2. I have about $4,000 in utility bills... will they be discharged? Electricity is the culprit... I heat my rented house with electricity

3. 2 of my kids have musical instruments that were rented through 2 different companies... just include those componies as creditors and return the instruments?

4. I own a small business... the only office equipment I have is a computer, telephone, copy machine, and fax machine. The office furniture is simply some hollow core doors sitting on 2 drawer file cabinets.. really nothing much. List it but shouldnt be a problem?

5. Will I need to provide my tax returns? bank statements?

I realize that a lawyer would be able to answer all these questions if I hired one... but then again, i cant afford one.

Thanks!

any other advice would be great!

1. BK attorneys have a number of plans to help folks such as you. At a minimum, talk to a couple, there should be no charge.

2. It depends on the type of utility. Some utilities are taxpayer owned and some BK courts will not dismiss debts to those types of utilities, this is another reason to talk to an attorney.

3. Yes.

4. Now you are talking 2 different issues, personal and business bankruptcy. Again, another reason you need an attorney.

5. Yes you will.

Most BK attorneys give free consultations, talk to a couple before attempting a bankruptcy alone.
