A family member was recently the victim of a childish but harmful prank involving a false email account and slanderous website.

A hotmail email account was set up using my family member's name by someone else. Mass emails were then sent out containing a link to a website which contained false and insulting text about my family member.

The website has closed down, but hotmail will not release the name of the person who set up the false email account without a police warrant. The Connecticut police say that there are no laws that cover this situation.

Does anyone know how we can obtain proof of who set up this email account and website?

Thank you.

Well thats what lawyers are for.......

To speak to the authorities and to determine if there was any "damage" done to your family.

I really wouldn't bother.... If it was a hotmail account the odds that the person who setup the account gave bogus information are incredibly high... they just don't do enough checking there.
