What is the name of your state? California

My daughter is going to serve her ex boyfriend with custody order papers (temporary until a court date is set). Because there is no established custody order, the boyfriend will demand visitation literally at his beck and call. Several times he has demanded to see the child only to not show up. Other times he has kept the child for several days longer than verbally agreed. My daughter has made every attempt to accommodate these demands as the boyfriend does love the child, but wants to see him at his convenience. In any event, the custody order will set consistency (at the very least).

My questions: If she serves him with these papers, he will deny it. She does not live in the same county, so … the police will not get involved. Are there services that do this? If so, how would one go about finding them?

She can contact and pay sheriffs in his county to attempt to serve him. If she has his current work or home address, she can also serve him by certified mail to his address. Also she can have anyone over the age of 18 who isn't a party to the case serve him in person- There will be a proof of service document to be filed in the court by whomever serves him (or for however he is served- there is different paperwork for each), so if he lies and states he was not served, it's unlikely a judge would believe him.

Good Luck to her
