What is the name of your state? ct
I had a credit card debt in 91 that I settled with a lawyer out of NY for 70 %. I recieved a letter stating the agreement and that the debt had been settled. I had 2 agencies over the years try and collect and I fowarded the paper work never to here from them again. Last year I recieved from a agency trying to collect the remaining 30 % plus interest from 91. I told them about the settlement and haven't heard from them since. I moved and lost the paper work. do I need to worry? What is the statue of limitations on debt. How do I protect myself. there must be something on file some where stating this agreement and settlement was fullfilled.

At this point, the settlement is neither here nor there. If you last paid on this debt in 1991, then the SOL expired in 1997 !!

Any fool scavenger collector that calls now you just send them a Cease and Desist and tell them never to contact you again about the debt, settled or not, as it is time-barred.
