Just got a copy of our settlement statement and it has several inconsistencies from our bill we received from our mortgage company.

1. Page one of the settlement statement lists mortgage as a conventional uninsured.

2. Initial monthly principal and interest is shown as $1150.16, which has the boxes principal and interest checked underneath WITHOUT selecting mortgage insurance.

3. The "total monthly amount owed including escrow account payments" box lists an additional $268.54 charge to the monthly statement for a total of $1418.70.

So WHY does my bill from my mortgage company list me having to pay $1681 INCLUDING mortgage insurance?! Is this grounds for contacting a real estate attorney? I do not want to have a nearly $300 discrepancy every month for my bill!

I would start with asking the lender why the discrepancy and why you are listed as going from an uninsured mortgage to an insured mortgage. This is definitely something to be concerned with but I see no reason for a lawyer...yet.
