I am writing from North Carolina. A few months ago, one of the partners of the corporation that I work for sent my name and address to a gay organization. Since then I have received numerous solicitations from various gay organizations. Some of these are QUITE explicit.
I am a happily married heterosexual, father of three daughters. I also am employed as an advanced practice registered nurse. My question is what recourse do I have against my employer? This guy jokes about getting me on this mailing list and admitted that he did it. Do I have legal recourse against him and/or the corporation? Or is it my tough luck that the original organization sold my name on a mailing list?
I know that this may sound like a funny prank. Unfortunately, I worry about one of my children picking up the mail and either realizing what the solicitation is for opening the mail and seeing the explicit ads.

I think you may have a claim -- but that pursuing it could cost you your job. I'd share my concerns with the other partners and ask the other partners to fix it.

Why don't you just get yourself removed from the mailing list -- and just laugh it off !!

Absolutely you have a case against the partnership and the individual. He/it has created a hostile enviornment for you. The law is clear that homosexuals can also sexually harass just as much as heterosexuals. If they terminated you shortly after you complained to the company and or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), then the employer may well have committed another civil wrong; wrongful termination in retaliation for standing on your rights. Most definitely consult with a labor lawyer near you. Try finding one at attorneypages.com
