I was a radio deejay for over 14 years at a station in Wisconsin. The station had financial problems for many years, but I decided I would help by accepting late paychecks. I wish now I hadn't. The station was sold in 1998 and I was owed $1600 in back wages, which the new owners never attempted to pay. According to state law, the statute of limitations on back wages only lasts for about 3 years. These wages in question were accumulated in 1995 and 1996. I should say I was let go when the staion changed hands and no longer work there. Is there any legal way now for me to get this money? Would hiring an attorney make sense in this situation?

If the statute of limitations has run, it may be too late.. You might file in Small Claims court and hope they fail to raise the statue of limitations. They have to raise it as an affirmative defense.
