I came to this forum to ask a question that, while it may seem trivial to many of you, was nevertheless important to me. While surfing I noticed a thread on a topic that interests me, so I read the responses and offered my own take on the subject.
Within minutes I was subjected to a flame war from someone whose responses indicated that she hadn't read even half of what I'd written. I tried to address her response logically by pointing out that she hadn't read the full body of my original post, but to no avail...the more I pointed out aspects of my view that she'd overlooked, the more sarcastic and nasty she became. (I won't deny that I lost my temper. However, in my own defense, I should point out that she wasn't the only person who disagreed with my point of view, but the other person did so politely, and I responded to him with equal courtesy. Clearly, I'm not the problem here.)
Anyway, I decided to investigate my adversary, and by looking at her profile I learned that she has posted over 1100 messages on this site in less than a year. Considering the content of the messages she directed at me, and the fact that every message of hers that I read contained a disclaimer that she isn't a lawyer, I think it's safe to conclude that her sole reason for posting so many responses is to cause trouble.
That conclusion is further supported by the fact that she deliberately sought out the thread I'd created to ask my own legal question, where she posted two ignorant and sarcastic responses. Then she posted a third message, ostensibly to answer my question. But think, people...why would someone who admits she isn't a lawyer bother answering my legal question? The answer can be found in her opening sentence: "I will be the bigger person here..." In other words, she didn't answer my question to be helpful, because how could someone who isn't a lawyer "help" by offering her opinion about a legal matter? No, she posted that final response in a last-ditch attempt to claim the moral high ground and paint a picture of herself as a nice person. Nice try, but to paraphrase the pop star, "Oops, she did it again."
But it didn't end there. Next I found another message, from someone else (or maybe it's the same woman using a different nickname), defending my attacker and heaping more vituperation on me.
I give up. It's obvious to me now that this board isn't a legitimate forum for people to pose legal questions and engage in logical discourse on various legal issues. It's a clique of fundamentalist radicals operating with a mob mentality--a group of dangerously ignorant and narrow-minded people who use every imaginable dirty tactic to shout down anyone who points out the illogic of their viewpoint.
I'm bowing out of this "forum." I'll do what I should have done to begin with: I'll ask a lawyer to answer my legal question.
Thanks for nothing.
