What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? South Carolina
Hello everyone, I am to appear in court due to an inattentive driving ticket an officer gave me.
It was morning, about 10am, and it was raining moderately, had been for about thirty minutes. I was turning left on a four-lane street in the righthand left-turn lane. I was not going any faster than 10 mph, had given myself plenty of space between myself and the car in front of me, and did not have my foot on the gas pedal, I was covering the brake.
I was driving an unfamiliar vehicle with a higher center of gravity, and while I was being even more cautious than usual due to this fact, I began to hydroplane as I hit the apex of the turn. It happened so quickly I didn't even have time to think about turning my wheel - my hind end swerved to the right, and I ended up completely sideways in the lane. The vehicle kept sliding and my front end struck a truck that was in the lefthand lane next to me.
No witnesses stopped, and the driver of the truck and I both gave testimony to the officers who showed up after we called.
Both vehicles are covered by USAA and no one sustained personal physical harm.
The officer gave me a ticket for Inattentive Driving. It is my first driving violation after about five years of perfectly safe driving without so much as a parking violation and it has me frustrated with myself. I honestly can't think of anything I could have done differently, other than driving even more slowly than I had been.
