after we were married i quit my job as an RN and worked for my ex as his office manager in his sole proprietor medical practice for 7 years. i recently received a statement from ssi showing what my lifetime benefits are and noticed that for those 7 years it looks as if i had not worked at all. is it reasonable to think that my ex should owe me the back ssi for the time i worked for him?

My response:

Not only is it reasonable, but it was highly unlawful of him to have not paid in to your SSI Fund. Besides being his wife, you were his employee. If you still have your paycheck stubs, I would report the matter to your local SSI office, and let their investigators handle him.

He's in for a rude awakening. Not only will he be responsible for the principle payments to them, he'll also be tagged for penalties and interest. Seven years' worth.
