maryland: I was using the whole name my mother called me by.
On her death bed my mother told me my real name. I had received my social security card using my first name. I lost all of my identification. I went to the social security and they told me I needed a birth certificate or some form of ID. When I went to get a birth certificate, they told me I need a social security card. Help! I am 69 years old and just can't find a way out of this loop. No I do not drive and never a license, no I do not have a passport.

Thanks,

yaleg

Gayle, let me give you some ideas. Do you have a health insurance card (other than medicare)? Life insurance policy? Doctor record? Marriage Cert? Divorce decree? Hospital record? Any one of these docuements would work. Do not bring in a photo copy or a notarized copy of any document, it will not be accepted.
