I let my friend drive my car so I could finish getting ready she got pulled over and the state trooper came over to my side she gave him her information he explained why she was pulled because she was speeding before he left I gave him my information as well just to beat him to the punch line of him coming back asking who owns the car. He came back ask us to state our last names so he could give our licenses back he said watch the speed and we were all set to go never handed a slip . I also want to add were from MA and this happened in NJ. Now I come home and there is four different letters from attorneys offices giving they're information and one has a ticket number I called the court house and it was true I have a speeding ticket I explained the situation and he set a court date for me to travel back down to transfer the information to the drivers he said there nothing to do but go down there and fight. My question is how should I proof I wasn't driving if the trooper try's to claim I was and should I hire someone to help or is there a way to beat this without having to travel

You gave the trooper your license? I can't see any reason why you would do that.

How do you prove it? You have your friend go to court with you and testify that she was the one driving.

It can't hurt to call several of the attorneys who sent you mailings to get their take on it.

I'm not well acquainted with the laws in NJ but when time comes for trial like HighwayMan said you can disclose you were not the driver. So you getting someone on the stand to testify you were not the driver would work. One thing to note is if the officer recalls if you are the driver or not. I would recommend getting ahold of the officers notes. Here in California our tickets are criminal matters so we have the right to discovery here, In NJ I'm not 100% sure but if you can go through and get a copy of his notes he may have something that can help you. I would check that route before you go and throw your lady friend under the bus. We don't have obligation to testify as to who committed an act, You merely have to say it wasn't you and the charges SHOULD get dropped, IF the judge believes you. The judge will be very inclined if you bring your friend that admits it was her but like I said, it may not be necessary and both of you can get out of the ticket going this route if you can convince the judge without admission of guilty from the lady.
