I live in Tigard, Oregon and work in Hillsoboro, Oregon. A twenty minute drive. Two day ago I was stopped by a Hillsboro cop for "speeding"; according to him.
I know I wasen't because I drive the same route everyday and know that he's there.
He claimed I was doing 41 in a 25MPh zone.

He took my DL, insurane and registration and went off for a while. Having never been stopped by a cop in the past 7 years, I was worried he was going to actually ticket me.

I called on him twice, but he never heard me. So I get out of the car to ask him. He freaks out and "orders" me back into my car.
Keep in mind I was wearing a tang-top, shorts and had my hands visible the whole time.

Next thing I know, another partol unit is FLYING to the "seen" and the cop gets out and stands behind my car!!!

The cop that stopped me comes closer and explains that he was not sure what I was up to since I got out of the car.

I ask him to show me the radar with my speed. He refused. I took the other cop's card since he saw everything including my request being denied.

My Question is:
is it my right to request that I see the Radar screen? And is the police officer required to actually show it to me?

I'm contesting the ticket and would like to know what are my options. The cop was extremely rude eventhough I initially plead mercy and was kissing his ass!

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

Okay, you have every right to request the read-out. You need to step into court and contest the ticket. Want to know a trick? YOu can call the police department and find out the days this Officer is off. Once you do, all you have to do is schedule your court date for that day. It usually works. Know why? No cop in court means no charges. No charges means charges dismissed, ticket go bye-bye.

Hope this helps.
