What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Hi,

I am an international student at Arizona State University. I live in Tempe,AZ. I got a speeding ticket with violation 22348b at San Diego highway. I am not much aware about the terminologies which are specific to rules in the U.S related to court appearances. And as I don't know in and out for trial and contesting, I am not sure if I can do this alone by myself. This is the 1st time it has happened to me in U.S and I am bit scared of the consequences. It's just been 1 year for me being in U.S here and this was the first time I went out of Arizona during the summer for a weekend break.

My citation says manndatory appearance so I have to go to San Diego court for the same. I was using the rental car from Arizona on my Indian license when I got the ticket. I don't have a U.S license yet. I cannot pay online also because the link to pay online is disabled for my citation on the site (maybe because my violation requires mandatory appearance). Please guide me if this case can be resolved without me going there as it will be loss of my classes and money too. I am already on loan for my studies and I will be really difficult for me to pay the amount for this citation. I saw online for this violation it's about $500 or more for this. I checked on the court's site that you can appeal for financial hardship and inability to pay, but I am not sure how that works and what letter and papers I will need to submit for it.

Please let me know if you can help me in this case. I will be really thankful to you for this.

Yep, speeding over 100 MPH is a mandatory appearance. The citation tells you that and this is why you just can't pay it online. I've got good news and bad news for you on the fine. The good news is the fine is only $200. The bad news is once they add on all the surcharges and fees you will have to pay $900. The other thing that is likely to happen is your privileges to drive in California is likely to be suspended for 30 days as well. You violate that, and you are facing very serious charges indeed.

Your belief that you were driving over 90 but not over 100 won't mean anything. All you need is a little downgrade or other slipup to get over 100 long enough to break this law.

You're going to have to make time to get to your court date. You might get some rescheduling if you act promptly. Your other option is to get a lawyer who can appear for you (you need to contact one in Mono county). He might even get the charge reduced, but that's going to be more than swallowed up by his fee.

San Diego has an attorney who will represent you for about $100. That doesn't include your fines if found guilty, but you don't have to go to court.

Can you tell me more about this and how I can get contact details of these attorneys.
