Oklahoma I am filing for divorce after 15 years. 12 years married. I am 41 years old with a 9 year old daughter by my husband. When our daughter turns 18 I will be 50 years old. I was wondering if I might be entitled to life time support due to my age. I only have a high school diploma and I am working full time at a school so that I can be home when our daughter is home. My husband makes 60k a year and I made 13.5k this year. I am working 35-40 hrs a week. Considered full time at a school. My husband was abusive and also has a girlfriend wich will all be brought up in court. I don't want to sound stupid if I should mention life time support, so I thought I would run it by you folks first. Also what would be a fair $ amount to ask for.

You are 41! Unless you are disabled or unable to work for some reason, I see no need to award you with LIFETIME support. Maybe a few years of support so that you can get a better education and/or job training, but not LIFETIME.

What people aren't getting is that many states, judges.. etc are moving away from permanent alimony and more towards temporary (for a few years), rehabilitative and reimbursement alimony, all of which are for a short period of time. For instance in my state, Indiana: Indiana statute 31-15-7-2 (D) states that rehabilitative spousal support shall be granted if other requirements are met, however, it is not to exceed past three years from the time of the final degree. Rehabilitative support is just long enough to help someone become self sufficent, be it to get a better job, go to school, whatever.
