I live in New Mexico. My husband and I are divorcing, and I am wondering how spousal support/alimony works. We have been legally married for 13 years, living together for 15. I have been primary caregiver to his children. They are now over 18. I put my career on hold in order to care for our (his biological) children. I was the one caring for them 100% of the time. I am no longer able to work due to a disability. I am 50 years old, and have not been working for nearly 10 years. I am concerned about being able to support myself. My husband makes roughly 175k annually. I receive 12k annually from Social Security due to my disability. I am frightened about how I am going to do it. My husband is just concerned about me putting him in the poor house (his words not mine). I please need some help understanding how they factor who is entitled to spousal support. Any help you can give is much appreciated. Thank you.

There is no super hard and fast rule about how alimony works. Honestly, your best bet would be to speak to a local attorney.
