What is the name of your state? Tennessee

Or at least I thought I was going to. I am a Freelance Artist and trying to establish an online presence. I want to sell reprints of my artwork on Premium photo paper using Paypal on my website. I typed a few simple contracts myself, and have established a secure method of payment. . My website is almost ready to be hosted. I have a domain name registered. <br>
Now I come across the fact that I need a seller's license, and probably a business license... what else do I need to prepare before I put my site on the internet?

What is required varies by state. There are a number of things required, depending on the nature of your business, and whether you decide to incorporate. It is best you check with the Secretary of State of Tennessee, or your Dept. of Economic & Community Development.

It sounds to me like you will need to charge sales tax as well. I am not from Tennessee, but California.

You may also want to find the local office of the Small Business Administration and make an appointment for a consultation with a member of SCORE. SCORE is made up of retired executives that volunteer to help people like you. You can find links on the websites below. Best of luck in your business endeavors, and avoid debt and overhead if at all possible. (I owned a business for 10 years that did $6 million a year in sales, in CA and debt and overhead did me in when my target market - Information Tech. companies - tanked in 2001.) Don't spend everything you make, save everything you can, and avoid paying taxes on what you save.
