What is the name of your state? California.
I have worked as a Maintenance Custodian at a Public K-12 school for the last 7 years. My job was reduced from 8 hrs w/benifits to 5 hours w/o benifits and now 1 hour w/o benifits over the period of the last school year. My employer has now decided that the work still needs to be done so he has contracted with an outside person to do jobs that have always been part of my job by job description. Since I'm still working there in the same capacity that I always have been, it seems to me, these hours should have been offered back to me as the holder of the original position. In other words, can my employer lay me off and then hire someone to backfill the position they just reduced or laid off. It doesn.t seem right to do that. Anybody ever heard of this?
Thanks
